Medicinas tóxicas para nuestras mascotas

Los medicamentos para humanos no deben ser administrados a los perros y gatos salvo que lo haya recetado un veterinario.

Medicamentos comunes como la aspirina, el paracetamol y el ibuprofeno son tóxicos para nuestras mascotas y pueden llegar a ser fatales.

El ibuprofeno bloquea los químicos en el cuerpo que causan dolor, fiebre e inflamación. Esta droga se encuentra en muchos productos de venta libre y puede ser potencialmente peligrosa especialmente para los perros de razas chicas y para los gatos. Sólo una tableta podría causarles ulceraciones gástricas.

Productos que contienen paracetamol y aspirina pueden ser tóxicos también, especialmente para los gatos. Los perros las toleran mejor pero el márgen de error en la dosis es muy pequeño y no se les debe administrar sino bajo supervisión veterinaria.

El paracetamol les causa asfixia porque les altera los glóbulos rojos, cambia la hemoglobina de la sangre en un compuesto llamado methaemoglobina, este compuesto no puede acarrear el oxígeno y como resultado las encías y los labios se tornan azules.

La aspirina también es peligrosa, causa una intensa irritación de los intestinos y pérdida del apetito, se presentan vómitos y depresión, especialmente en los gatos, y el animal no puede pararse ni con servar el equilibrio y la cabeza se le mueve hacia ambos lados.

Otros medicamentos que deben ser mantenidos lejos de los gatos son los que contienen;
fenilbutazona, indometacina, naproxeno, acetaminofen y codeína.

Mantener las sustancias tóxicas lejos de su alcance es importante para prevenir intoxicaciones accidentales.

Comunicación entre especies - Recomiendo un libro

Quiero recomendar un libro que leí hace un tiempo atrás, este libro esta escrito por Penelope Smith, ella es una persona que desde los años 60 está dedicada al campo de la comunicación con los animales. Ella tiene desde niña la capacidad de comunicarse con ellos, los que estan con nosotros, y con los que ya se han ido.
Yo sé que este es un tema controversial y que mucha gente no cree en este tipo de cosas,yo respeto su opinión, pero creo que entre las personas que queremos mucho a los animales y que tenemos perros, gatos o lo que sea, sabemos que detrás de esas hermosas caras o bellos pelajes hay algo más que puro instinto, vemos al espíritu del animal,espíritus que como tambien en los humanos unos son más evolucionados que otros, llegando a ser algunpos seres de mucha luz.
Para los que hemos sufrido alguna vez la pérdida de un animal querido, este libro es maravilloso porque nos ayuda a superar esa pérdida y a ver y aceptar la muerte de otra manera, dándonos mucho consuelo.
Estuve averiguando y lamentablemente no esta traducido al español.

Generalmente, los gatos domesticos alcanzan la edad para reproducirse entre los 7 meses y el año.
Una hembra puede estar en celo hasta 5 veces en un año. El período de gestación dura entre 63 y 65 días y el parto dura aproximadamente 2 horas. Cada camada tiene un promedio de 4 gatos, esto depende también de la raza. Los siameses usualmente tienen más los abysinius menos. Cada gatito nace en un saco amniótico individual que se rompe al nacer, en caso de no romperse, lo hace la madre, ella también corta el cordón umbilical y come la placenta, esto estimula la secreción láctea.
Los gatitos nacen ciegos y sordos. Sus sentidos comienzan a funcionar 10 a 12 días después del nacimiento. Inmediatamente después de nacer la mamá los lame, esto no solo los limpia sino que estimula la circulación. Un gato puede tener hasta 3 camadas al año, obviamente la regulación de la población felina no se puede dejar solo en manos de la Naturaleza, y es conveniente castrarlos (machos) 0 esterilizarlos (hembras), estos son procedimientos simples.
Los gatos que son cuidados pueden vivir entre 14 y 15 años y a veces mucho mas.
